Renewable Energy Sources is an industry segment that has a history and a comeback.

In the 1970s,after a drastic rise in oil prices following the Yom Kippur war in 1973, an Israeli company named Luz developed utility scale solar thermal electric power plants. However, after oil prices decreased Luz could not compete and only a few solar plants continued operation, mostly in California.

Recent years have brought to a revival of Israeli renewable energy industry in the entire spectrum of technological solutions: solar, biodiesel, wind etc.
